In the next Issues in Evaluation webinar, a partnership between the Data Foundation and GAO, experts from across the evidence-building community will address the benefits and methods for building capacity in the federal government, and address the recommendations in the GAO report. This webinar included a discussion of opportunities for collaboration in improving the field, as well as next steps.
Protecting privacy and ensuring confidentiality in data is a critical component of modernizing our national data infrastructure. The use of blended data--combining previously collected data sources--presents new considerations for responsible data stewardship. Toward a 21st Century National Data Infrastructure: Managing Privacy and Confidentiality Risks with Blended Data provides a framework for managing disclosure risks that accounts for the unique attributes of blended data and poses a series of questions to guide considered decision-making. Following the presentation of the report’s findings and conclusions, discussion leaders will share reflections on implications for statistical policy and best practices for managing privacy risk.
On March 28, the Data Foundation hosted a webinar to mark the launch of the new report, Reimagining Vital Records: A Digital, Interoperable, & Timely Public Health Data Infrastructure, outlining a vision for a future, digital vital records system that is well-situated to support ever-changing public health and information needs.

Ensuring that the American public receives public services and program delivery informed by the best data and evidence has been a growing endeavor for years.As more examples abound about the successes of applying data and evidence in policy and day-to-day decision-making, attendees joined the Data Foundation for a virtual event to explore the efforts to improve storytelling across the field. As we increasingly move beyond anecdotes to highlight real cases of evidence-informed decision-making and policymaking from around the United States we invited participants to consider their own examples and successes.

The Data Foundation and Deloitte hosted a virtual event on December 19, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. EST to discuss the survey and the new report, Insights into Enabling Mission Success: A 2023 Survey of Federal Chief Data Officers. The event featured report authors and Chief Data Officers, the conversation focused on key findings and recommendations from the report, including themes related to becoming a data-driven organization, strengthening the CDO community, and leveraging innovative technology to support mission success.
On 12/6/23, the Data Foundation hosted "PitchFest 2023: Unlocking the Vision of the Financial Data Transparency Act." The event featured selected speakers who pitched their innovative ideas on how to utilize the enhanced financial regulatory information and data.
The Datum Awards 2023 recognized government data champions who are working on meaningful initiatives that unleash data for the public good. The Office of Management and Budget proposed regulations to guide federal statistical agencies in building public trust. These regulations are open for public comment, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to offer feedback and engage with others. They will help ensure the reliable production of official statistics for decision-making and influence government data users, including the public and private sectors. Individuals from various sectors are welcome to participate in the event, but speaker slots are limited and require a summary submission by September 15th.
