Advancing Data Literacy in Government: Lessons from Early U.S. Pioneers

Reading, writing, and communicating with data in context is increasingly important for the public sector workforce. Government agencies can take intentional steps to promote a data literate workforce and continue to foster a capacity for better using data and evidence informed decision-making. The Data Foundation, Deloitte, and The Data Lodge discussed data literacy in the United States today, including lessons from early pioneers. The authors of the new Data Foundation report also discussed attributes of successful data literacy programs and offered a set of recommendations for prioritizing and sustaining data literacy efforts.
