Overview
The Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018 (Evidence Act) created the Chief Data Officer (CDO) role in federal agencies. New survey data collected by the Data Foundation, in partnership with Guidehouse, show that experienced CDOs made progress over the last three years advancing data governance in their agencies and accomplishing Federal Data Strategy Action Plan priorities. Despite this progress, CDOs still face challenges to achieving the role’s full potential.
The Data Foundation and Guidehouse hosted a virtual discussion on Tuesday, November 1, at 11:00am ET to discuss their new report, The Growth and Challenges of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) Role and Agencies’ Data Maturity: A 2022 Survey of Federal CDOs. Discussion focused on the latest survey results, including comparisons over time, analysis of the CDOs’ role in their agencies, the maturity of CDO positions in the federal government, and recommendations for strengthening CDO capacity.
